JESUS CLAIMED TO BE GOD
Was he lying,             crazy, or truthful?

In John 8:58, Jesus invoked the divine name revealed to Moses (Exodus 3:14).

“Before Abraham was, I AM,”

We learn multiple times that people were ready to stone Jesus for referring to Himself as God (John 10:30).

“I and the Father are one.”

In John 14:9, Jesus again related Himself to God the Father.

“He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

When Jesus was baptised, God the Father made a public declaration from heaven.

“ This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:16).

JESUS WAS ARRESTED FOR CLAIMING TO BE GOD.

JESUS CHOSE TO BE PAINFULLY TORTURED AND KILLED RATHER THAN RECANT.

Jesus had supernatural power. He walked on water (John 6: 19), calmed fierce wind (Mark 4:36- 41), healed the blind (John 9), the deaf (Mark 7), the mute (Matthew 12:22), and healed a paralytic (Matthew 9), had authority to drive out demons (Luke 4:41). Thousands of people would have witnessed these miracles and yet there is no evidence at the time of anyone trying to or being able to disprove Jesus’ miracles.

ALL OF THE HUNDREDS OF PREDICTIONS ABOUT JESUS (THE MESSIAH) THAT WERE MADE (OFTEN HUNDREDS OF YEARS) BEFORE HE WAS EVEN BORN WERE FULFILLED.

MANY OF THESE PREDICTIONS SUCH AS HIS PLACE OF BIRTH AND THE MANNER OF JESUS’ DEATH WERE DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL…

Jesus commended people when they declared Him to be God. For example Thomas (one of the disciples) said to Jesus, “ My Lord and my God!" ( John 20:28 ).

Jesus died almost 2000 years ago.
He was born into and lived a life of simplicity and poverty and spent most of His life unknown.

He never held a position in public life and His public ministry lasted only three years.
He died on a cross next to two criminals and His disciples faced violent deaths for following Him.
Many of the early Christians were executed, crucified or burned alive and the first thirty three popes were all martyred.

Despite these facts, almost  2000 years after His death (in 33AD), Christianity has remained the most popular religion in the world and about one in every three people identify as Christian.

FAITH IS NOT OPPOSED TO REASON

The Catholic Church proclaims that humanity can come to know the existence of a personal, loving God “with certainty… by the natural light of human reason”.
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 36).
